Try a different beginning
If your hips immediately spin and the club gets pulled behind you, try experiencing the opposite: receive pressure into the trail foot before you feel yourself turning.
Keep the rehearsal small. We are trying to give you a different beginning to the swing.
First, check the simple things. Are you balanced? Does the trail foot feel connected to the ground? Can you move pressure into that foot without rolling onto its outside edge?
Then let your hands move from the middle of your body toward the trail thigh. Feel the trail foot receive you while the hips stay quieter than usual. From there, allow the backswing to continue.
Compare the feel with the movement
For somebody who spins immediately, that might feel like almost no turn at all. Video may show that the body is still turning plenty. That is why we check.
Make a rehearsal using your normal start, then one where you exaggerate receiving pressure before turning. Compare them on video. Does the club travel differently? Can you stay supported through the foot?
At The Tips, we can add a short shot and use TrackMan to see whether the change affects your contact or club path. The screen helps us evaluate the shot. Video helps us see the movement.
Let the result guide the next step
If the new beginning makes the club easier to deliver, keep exploring it. Gradually blend the rehearsal into a normal swing.
Some golfers need more freedom to turn, so holding the hips quiet will not help everybody. The task has to fit the tendency.
But if your usual answer is to spin harder, give yourself permission to try a different answer. Find out what happens when you load into the trail side and let the turn develop from there.
